mr. magoo aka mackie

Mackie was born in the hills near Charlottesville in 2008, a fifth generation Virginian. He is a full descendant of the Wheaten Terrier clan in Ireland where they were known for their fine herding instincts. One of his favorite pastimes is herding Ruthi around the house, bumping her and nipping at her knees to keep her corralled.

Mackie is assertive and extraordinarily articulate in expressing his opinions. Every day around five he tells Ruthi it's time to open the front door, regardless of the weather, so he can sit on the stoop that leads to the front courtyard and allow his admirers, which means any dog or human who passes by the house, to pay court. He is offended by any who ignore him, although most don’t.

On walks he is constantly stopped by strangers who just need to pet him. One man, dressed in a full business suit, dropped to his knees, took Mackie’s face in his hands and said, “There is just nothing like Wheaten eyes.” Mr. Magoo wasn’t at all surprised by the homage.

His favorite toys are a rubber chicken and a regulation basketball.
